When you're using a roll-clean type technique for the keg, it's easy to forget where you've put your hands on the keg. If they're in the wrong place, you've failed the rep before you even try to press it.

In order to keep the keg balanced in your grip, your hands need to be at opposite ends of the keg. I've seen it a lot at competitions where athletes will have their hands to close to being on the same side of the keg while gripping the top and bottom.

With the hands in this position, the keg will never be stable. It'll always be trying to get it's center of gravity as low to the floor as it can, meaning a shifting around in your hands.

Think of each side of the keg as having the same clock face, and when you go to grab it for the press, make sure your hands are on opposite sides of that clock. If this is a new cue for you, have a training partner watch from the side and let you know where your hands are in the front rack.

I've been to a couple of competitions where this correction would have put a lot of reps on the board.
