Hello Racers!

Thanks for registering for the Mean Lamine! We intend to hold the race on Saturday, however, we are monitoring the weather closely.

The water level and debris are not an issue at present, and we don't expect them to be as tomorrow (Friday) has little/no forecast for rain. On race day however, the forecast calls for thunderstorms. We will race, rain or shine, but we cannot race under lightning. Sunday's forecast looks like a very good race day. 71 degrees, winds of 5-10 mph, and a stray shower possible.

If we had to make the call today, we would shift the race to Sunday. However, we know how the forecast can change in the midwest, and changing the date invites challenges for both the race administration and racers.

Therefore, we will continue to monitor the weather, get input from our reconnaissance team, and make a decision no later than tomorrow by 1pm. We will communicate our decision via email and on Facebook.

As a reminder, if the race is postponed and you cannot make it, your registration can be credited towards any MPR merchandise or other MPR races this season or next.

Thank you for understanding that safety comes first,
Joe and the MPR staff

May the 4th be with you! Yes, May 4th, just 27 days away is the Mean Lamine, a great race that is only 13.4 total miles (6.7 up and 6.7 back) on the Lamine River. It's right off I-70, just east of Boonville, and NO SHUTTLING needed!

All participants will receive great swag and finish medals. The top three in each class will be awarded trophies. Anyone under 18 races for free.

As always, all participants, ground crews, friends, family, and even strangers and stray dogs eat for free at the grilled hot dog and sausage buffet at the finish line complete with snacks, chips, water, and soda pop.

Registering early helps us plan, but we will have race day registration available:

MPR Race Updates:
The Gritty will now be moved to June 29th, and it will stay there. The Kansas River at Desoto is under flood stage, and is forecasted to keep dropping. However, next week there is a good chance of rain all week long, therefore, I want to give an extra week after that for things to settle.

The Freedom Race will now tentatively be moved to when the MR340 was set to take place, Saturday July 20. We are working with the Jefferson City Park, and they believe this could be a good possibility, but we will have a much more clear picture in a couple weeks.

The most important thing though is that we all wish for the safety and quick recovery for the people and communities affected.

Gritty Race Update!

Due to river levels on the Kaw, we are postponing the Gritty to June 22nd. Sorry everyone, I know this is frustrating. We still plan to have the Freedom Race on the 29th as long as the river is not in flood stage.

Missouri River Shootout Update!

Due to high river levels, we MAY elect to shorten the race to finish at Sibley/Fort Osage, making it a 30.3 mile race.

Currently KC and Sibley gauges are both under flood stage, and are predicted to remain that way through Saturday. The Napoleon gauge is currently 0.9 feet over minor flood stage. While the difference of 0.9 feet over or under the line of "minor flood stage" isn't much, we are working with authorities and insurance to ensure there is no additional risk, and that it doesn't affect insurance coverage in any way.

As soon as we get input from all parties, I will post the decision.

If you sign up for the Shootout Race within the next 24 hours you are guaranteed a T-shirt. Very nice softstyle ringspun cotton.

You’re not guaranteed warm weather though.

But suck it up. If you only train when it’s nice, then you’re not training enough!!

The Gritty is Postponed! Sorry everyone, We have to postpone the race. The make up date will be exactly 2 weeks from the original: 9:00am start on Saturday, June 3rd. The Lawrence gage went from 12,000cfs to 40,000csf in the last 6 hours, and it's still rising. Lots of debris, rising river, no safe place to pull over, and an extremely dangerous dam at the end. Safety is the number 1 priority. Thanks for understanding.

05/19/2017

The Gritty is supposed to be tomorrow at 9am.

I will be making a decision on the status of the race in the next 2 hours. Due to the heavy rains this week and currently today, the Kansas River is rising, and safety must be number 1. If we have to postpone it, it will either be a 1 week or 2 week postponement.
