Vote for Robbie Perkins – Elect Robbie Perkins Mayor of Greensboro 04/05/2025

Robbie Perkins running for Greensboro Mayor!!
Robbie and his significant other Christy Myatt are longtime cycling supporters and GSO movers & groovers. Robbie was a high level runner too, but we remember Christy as one of the elite safety patrol cyclists at the Tour to Tanglewood!
Now Robbie is running to repeat as Greensboro mayor. The timing is crucial and it's worth reading his comments from over a year ago:

Ladies and gentleman! cycles de ORO is now back to our IN-SEASON schedule!
We are open from 10 am until 6 pm Monday through Friday, and 9 am -6 pm on Saturdays. (Closed Sunday)
Y'all come see us now, hear???

Photos from cycles de ORO Bike Shop's post 03/23/2025

This is the very first film by Jacques Tati & can be seen all over Youtube in multiple short clips, but must be bought/rented to be seen complete. Being a cheapskate, I was delighted to find it complete using the Internet Archive service.
https://archive.org/details/jour-de-fete

Just fun to watch, it is even more interesting to learn that it was filmed in the village of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, where Tati himself lived during the N**i occupation of France. And according to the credits (if I read them correctly) he is riding a 1911 Peugeot bicycle!

Did anyone take pictures at the Extravanza event this past Sunday? If you did, please share! (I meant to myself but was crazy busy! What fun we had!) Thx, Dale

Report on GVC's Extravaganza Expo!
Thanks to all who came and enjoyed this event!
We had 35 swap & displayer spaces, 25 beautiful & interesting show bikes, and just over 300 visitors. Once again, socializing was perhaps the most fun. A special Birthday celebration happened as well... SO very nice!!
And after clearing the costs of putting the event on, GVC is now able to write a check to the Interactive Resource Center fior $1000.!
A HUGE THANKS must go out to our many volunteers, who arrived early to set it all up, worked throughout the day to keep it running and then stuck around and took it all away!
Special kudos go to our community partners (in alphabetic order) Team Canterbury, the Comeback Tour, Cyclepaths, Team Epic, Mayhem Cycling, the MS Society and Perpetual Motion! And our super duper host, Andy Zimmerman!
So just a super fun time!
Thanks again.

Here are 90 + pictures to show you. (Did anyone take shots out on the road we can add here?)

This will be the 3rd year the Polar Bear Ride has supported the Out of the Garden Project in Greensboro. This is a significantly effective organization!
Their credo:
"Our mission is to end childhood hunger in the Piedmont area of North Carolina by providing nutritious food to children and families in need, fostering a supportive community, and ensuring every child has the resources to thrive."
"Out of the Garden Project began in 2008, feeding a few families over the weekend. Now, we’re one of the largest in the Piedmont Triad"

If you agree that this project deserves our help, any of us can make a donation on the Polar Bear sign up site https://www.bikereg.com/polarbear and/or bring the 2 cans of food on Jan 1st!
Thank you!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone!

11/29/2024

Woo hoo! It's time for the 26th POLAR BEAR RIDE! This is one of our city's biggest each year and great fun! The popular routes are being "breathed on" for even better riding, and we have a GREAT lunch in store made by wonderful Cindy Esse at Pastabilities!
As in the past few years, this is a benefit for the food bank named Out of the Garden Project. And those who join the host club for 2025 are free! So it's a no brainer, plan to join us for lots of new year fun.
