Proper neck tension is the only thing that holds the projectile in place on a 9mm (specifically) and others that require a taper crimp. Let the photos below prove that “I can order it cheaper online” normally ends up like this.

These are picked up rounds from “AAC” or “America’s Ammounition Company”. Palmetto State Armory, also known as PSA, owns the trademark to this brand.

The first photo shows a round that was so far set back into the case because of the lack of neck tension. If this round would have been fired, it would have FAR exceeded even +P+ pressures. This would have also likely ended in a catastrophic failure of the case and in turn the firearm. Injuries from a firearm that is made to contain upwards of 50,000psi are rarely minor and could result in the death of the shooter. The additional photos show the tension line in the proper place once run through a crimp die that is set properly. Once crimped PROPERLY, these rounds will no longer allow bullet setback under recoil or being dropped while loading a mag.

These “pop up” ammo companies that saw a chance to profit when everything went stupid, do not have the quality control in place to keep this from happening, they just have people that like to press buttons and count along with very large insurance policies to protect them.

Obviously we would love to sell all the ammo to everyone, quality ammo, but the reality is that we are small and can’t compete with big box (even if they are more expensive). Yes, it is a bit more expensive than some stuff you can order online, but are your hands and possibly your life, really worth the chance? Either way, please, please spend that little bit extra to get quality that you can trust and enjoy. Shooting sports are not cheap as most already know. What is a few extra dollars on a case of ammo in the grand scheme? It might just save your life.
