I get it, and most men will back out of movement with their kids because they hurt, are too tired, or don’t want to. 😩

The truth is…the MIMIC your every move..and are noticing how you are and what you do. The regret you will have later by not stepping up NOW will come back to haunt you.

You are in control. 🫵

Dads, how you do anything is how you do everything. 🫵

The way you keep your car, the way you dress, the example you SET for your kids will revolve around YOUR ENERGY you put off. 🫵

For many dads I see…working out isn’t the issue. 😕

It’s the fear of going to a gym and not having a clue to what to do, or the best route to get them results in the “short” window they get from taking time away from their family.

Even more…

They are afraid of getting injured. 🤕

The biggest challenge many dads face is trying to stay consistent in the midst of chaos, stress, work and balancing family.

It becomes a hard task, and many veer away from it after seeing the daily requirements.

With our client….there wasn’t much different.

He came to us injured, with a torn meniscus

What many think…. “Well, I’m hurt, there is no chance in getting stronger so I might as well call it quits.”

But knew he had a decision to make that either took him down a road of MORE weight gain or at least “trying to maintain” and he decided to reach out to get a coach. 🤝

I know that losing the dad bod is something MOST men want, contrary to what some bogus research points out…there is nothing magical about them.

The keys to a strong, lean and muscular physique start with what you put in your mouth. Cutting out packaged foods that have 50+ ingredients and words you can’t pronounce is a good start.

From there, get your daily protein needs in and watch growth hormone SURGE with more sleep and a focus on recovery.

Remember, as you age, it’s the time you recover that shapes and molds your body! If you are spending it sitting on your butt, drinking alcohol, and working a stressful job without a break, you will suffer.

Your body recognizes alcohol as a toxin and will try to get rid of it first, so it will naturally work LESS as hard to get rid of normal food energy intake.

After Work, Running to Events and Practices, Preparing meals....Are your workouts SUFFERING? 🤔

Your kids and lives get EVERYTHING and you get what’s left at the end of the day.

Sometimes I hit the wall.

I’m not some fairytale magical unicorn that never feels pain or hurts themselves.

To be honest, 3 straight days of 430am wake-ups then have HORRIBLE effects on my training. 😩

I am either hurting and not recovered, or I am dreading it because I am so tired.

Men are like FORDS….we are built for TOUGH. 😑

The only issue is that us men like to keep a lot of our inner demons buried deep within our soles to try to convey the simple fact that we don’t need help. 😓

Steve was like many of you where he came in with a ton of weight on his shoulders from business, entrepreneurship and suffering from yo-yo dieting syndrome.

You know…

The type where you go hard and workout 1-2 times PER DAY….diet like a rabbit and drop 20lbs in a month, then the second life hits you…

You are stuck in the cupboard unable to get the pringles out of your hand and the bottomless fries at Red Robin become a weekly thing.

You end up back to square one, only with altered s*x hormones, lowering your libido, drive, confidence and the feeling of inadequacy piles up. 🤦‍♂️

Once Steve decided to come into our system, we put him on an elimination diet that reduced systemic inflammation and began a hybrid training system that helped him eat more, train less and get more energy than he ever felt possible.✅

Oh, and he dropped 26lbs and stacked wins personally and professionally, getting the confidence to let go of a business hold up that was draining his time and energy.

Guys…

This isn’t rocket science, but keying in on these 10 exercises can go a long way in your physical and health development as a man! 👍

📌 Deadlifting isn’t just for powerlifters. It’s a full body exercise that keys in overall strength. Find the type that works for you, just make sure you PULL in some fashion off the floor!

📌 Squatting is amazing for leg development, but you don’t beed to be fixated on the barbell squat. Most guys over 25 find heels elevated DB squats or heavy Goblet squats enough, but you work on what you find helpful and pain free!

📌 Rows are a MUST! A strong, wide back is a sign of a well build MAN in my opinion! It will keep you injury free, plus it will make you look leaner the wider and stronger your back is!

I’m not a fan of throwing millions of olympic lifts into programs, BUT the DB sn**ch can be a GREAT exercise for full body strength and conditioning!

You MUST hit closed chain exercises like the pull up and push up! They are a MUST to work on and progressively overload with weights and chains and deficits.

My EVIL love and hate are bulgarians! I find one of the most humbling exercises yet powerful for leg development! These are a must for any guy looking to get strong and lean!

When it comes to chest, the EMG stats of the activation of various degrees of muscle tension cannot be beat than the 30 degree incline! I wouldn’t skip it if you want to grow pecs and ditch the man b***s!

Face pulls are a NEED for anyone in the work force to help combat shoulder pain and promote health along the joint. You can get creative and add y raises as well, but adding a form of face pull will keep you strong and healthy! 🤷‍♂️

Lastly, you KNOW I can’t forget cardio! I believe some Zone 2 cardio is essential for overall development and heart health so you can improve your ability to recover and train!

The supplement industry is BOOMING, at a 183 BILLION dollar expense! 👀

What I love is that it means people are trying to put their health at the top, but what it also means is that knowing we have an obesity epidemic…

We are using them wrong and not putting the money to good use. 🤦‍♂️

As a functional health coach, I will tell you my BIGGEST mistakes I see people make when I bring on new clients.

They are using products with artificial sweeteners and preservatives or labels longer than a snickers bar. 🙄

You are literally making your body worse by adding things to it that are further from the natural environment of our earth. Stick to products you know and can trust, and if you are unsure ask a professional. Do NOT take something because the name or label “looks cool and is marketed well.”

📌 You GO WITH WHAT YOU HEAR works.

The worst mistake to make is seeing how a certain supplement works for someone you talked to at the gym and jump on the bandwagon and go home and order it yourself. These are NOT a one size fits all tool, and you should know what your body type is and the issue you need with your lifestyle taken into consideration.

📌 You get on subscriptions.

For what we work with in Revive, supplements are just that, they SUPPLEMENT a good diet and lifestyle. Do fat burners have a play in some cases, sure…creatine….you bet. What about thyroid support? All these things can be helpful FOR a certain person and duration. The reason the industry is booming is because they tend to stack orders and subscriptions so you are paying months on end.

A supplement protocol for how we work tend to go in waves, where you can be on them for a short time or even 2-3 months before coming off. But the overall goal is to have your body be healthy enough without support. This doesnt mean ALL should be cycled, as Fish Oil and a few others can always be a good daily thing, but more times than not…I see people hooked for years on something they can be off of adfter a short time.

Nothing is worse than putting in the time in the gym and not seeing the results!

Here are 3 things stopping you from having muscle definition and fat loss ⬇️

📌 You don't understand mechanical tension

This means basically you don't push sets near failure on the force/velocity curve. Too much Junk Volume and sets.

📌 You EAT the WRONG foods.

You can train all you want, but if you are not getting quality protein and eating whole food-based meals, you can only remember to look the part if you are a genetic outlier.

📌 Your hormones and body markers are out of balance.

👉 Sleep - 8 hours a night to be precise. The National Sleep Foundation affirms its magic. It reduces stress, promotes mental health, and keeps the heart healthy. So night owls, time to adjust those clocks!

👉 Socialising - Doing it 2-3x per week does wonders for your mental health. Harvard study suggests it can lead to longer lives, and better brain health.

👉 Hydrate! 1 gal of water a day keeps the doc away. Mayo Clinic says it helps maintain vital bodily functions and improves physical performance.

👉 Lifting weights - 3-5x a week, not only will you look good, you'll feel good. According to a study in JAMA, weightlifting can help with controlling belly fat and those love handles.

When you are working out to BURN CALORIES, you are setting yourself up for disaster! 😬

Here are a few reasons WHY NOT to aim for a caloric “burn” each time you hit the gym…

👉 The DEVICES are off! Those wearables, machines and gadgets can overestimate calories burned by 60% …so if you are using it to burn off your meal, you are vastly undershooting.

👉 You create a NEGATIVE relationship with working out! – EAT FOOD, cause pain and workout. NOT a good route to go and will take you away from the amazing benefits lifting has!

👉 You UNDER estimate the amount of food you actually are eating! Most weight loss issues result from a poor tracking of food.

👉 Your workouts should not be cardio sessions. If you want to lose weight, lift weights and eat well. If you want to run a marathon, run more and eat well. You can’t (unless you are a superstar athlete) be burning thousands of calories each day so you can eat more junk food.

👉 Your body drives up stress from over training OR under-eating. Both of which can down regulate the adrenals, lower metabolic rate and make it much harder for you to sustain. If you are ok never touching a carb your whole life, go for it. I would rather eat my carbs and love them!

Things Dads do to JACK UP their TESTOSTERONE! 😳

👉 DIETING all the time and not feeding yourself

One of the main issues men have is NOT eating enough, or of the right foods. While in short term this is OKAY, long term it will wreck s*x hormones in both men and women. Learn to feed yourself properly and around the lifestyle you live!

👉 Cutting Carbs out all the time

Carbs increase mTor...which is a KEY for muscle growth. They also slow down cortisol which is not the best for testosterone if it's chronically HIGH!

Carbs are NOT the enemy, but how you use them and time them can make you more efficient!

👉 SKIMP on SLEEP and rely on CAFFEINE

Caffeine is a adenosine antagonist, which is what stimulates your body's natural sleep cycle....too much caffeine not only will blunt this, but also lower your natural production of your adrenals which will ultimately have an effect on testosterone.

👉 Living a HIGH stress life

STRESS is a s*x hormone killer! I lived it, breathed it and had it soak up all my available testosterone in my early 20's...

If you are always stressed, your in for trouble with not just testosterone, but a boatload of gut, immune and dysfunctional sleep.

👉 Drinking and OVER DOING it on the weekends

If you are one to be PERFECT all week then let lose the reigns on the weekend, I'm sorry but you are still failing. 5 out of 7 is not passing and adding alcohol to the mix will only blunt fat loss and impair your body's ability to eliminate toxins.

Remember, you will naturally want to RID this first out of your system, making everything else easily stored for ...well..fat...because most of you are not drinking and binge eating then going and running a marathon the next day.

No one is perfect, but in all honesty, men often sabotage themselves. 😶‍🌫️

Raw — Backwards spells WAR, I was living a war with myself, portraying to be a family man but was furthest thing from it. 👀

I was living a life full of my ambitions and leaving everyone around me as leftovers.

Knew I wanted to coach, didn’t know how to do it effectively and never set boundaries and just gave without seeing what it was TAKING from me and my family.

I feel like I’ve let everyone down, because my life was built off perfectionism and not letting anyone down. But then I ended up letting down those who matter most to me. 😔

I learned that life is short, being slow to react and listening more, reacting less and being the one in the room with nothing to hide is what is TRUE to your self

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16. ☀️

The reality of our Christian profession is shown in many ways: the things we say, as well as the things we do not say; the things that we do, as well as the things we do not do.✝️

Does our conversation honor Christ? Are our habits those of which he approves?



Are our sources of recreation those in which His presence can be a part?

It’s the RAW truth, and one thing you are seeing from me is no holding back.

Why?

I’m here to challenge DADS. 🫵

You are not setting an example for your kids.

You are hiding in the truth. 😑

📌 You can’t learn what you don’t feel — and feelings have order.

They have a beginning, middle and end and usually daisy chain together.

Most men, can easily identify anger and maybe rage [usually only the fear of it]— perhaps the edges of fear and sadness.

But, it’s only in sorrow and grief that you experience real relief.

So me calling you out on the truth can bring you to the real emotions you need to hear to make a change.

I get it, it’s H-A-R-D Mike…🙄

Yes, no one said it’s easy. It’s also HARD to have a gut, not keep up with your kids, be unattractive, drop testosterone and be a health concern to your family.

This is the messy part most men avoid.

It’s “soul work”.

Dark, muddy, murky and wet.

It’s the potential of who you could be, who you are and the painful gap of reality.

Truth.

You cannot talk, think or reason with this place – it must be felt.

And, rage is the doorway — anger, just won’t do.

📌 Everything in masculinity is modeled — faith, fitness, finances and FAMILY and FOOD.

It works in every domain.

Here are 5 things MOST of the dads I see SAY that truly NEVER get results

1. I eat pretty good and watch what I eat.

If you are “pretty good” then you are average, and average is not passing when wanting to lose fat.

2. I know what to do, just need to get to it

If you knew what you needed to do you would have done it a LONG time ago. The fact is, you are not disciplined or knowledgeable to do it on your own, and that’s okay! We all need help, accept it and be SUPPORTED.

3. After I get through ____, I’ll have more time and will get to it.

False, the BEST time to start on YOU and your health is WHEN YOU ARE BUSY. If you are waiting, then you are saying you can only take care of yourself when you are not busy? Hmmmm….

4. The kids schedules rule all and I get no time.

Says who? You make the time. You also use what you want to get where you want. Why cant you knock out a workout while they are practicing? If you are in the car driving to events, plan a time once there to get 5 minutes of bodyweight movements in. Want a whole workout? Get up earlier. I don’t know kids who practice at 5am?

5. My kids decide what we eat because they are picky. 🙄

Your kids should be led by YOU, not in charge of the food they eat. That is why we live in a world of over 60% obesity in children.

Set the tone, and I’m sure you remember the days where you couldn't leave the table until it was eaten.

Well, we now have a ZILLION ways to make veggies taste good, try one or go old school. 😂

The funny thing about MACROS ….😄



You start your day STRONG, logging EVEN your 2 tsp of milk in your coffee. (You got to count for every little thing) 😩



You stay strong through lunch and even log your co-worker's “healthy” snack they give you and you want to make sure it’s tracked so you guess and log.



Dinner comes…



You eat while standing up and serving your kids food, before rushing to practices, and then as cleaning up you demolish their leftovers because you were never taught to waste food 😂 …



You scarf down yours, and theirs, and top it off with a Gatorade they had out and you automatically say F&C% it stop logging for the day and is done with macros….



Until you wake up and do it all over…..(sigh) …



Logging is hard.

Tracking is hard.

Being consistent is hard.

Resisting temptations when you are rushed is hard.

The amount of guys who hit the “dad life crisis” is growing. 😲

What is that? 🤔

Well, you will relate very well. You start out single, tons of free time and the ability to train when you want and eat more freely with no fear of weight gain.

Single Life = Ripped Life

Then you get married and while time decreases, you still make time for health and you enjoy that time as you feel good and have the energy and motivation to keep your physique looking great.

Your body’s hormones are still rocking and you feel the daily grind as a small roadblock that you conquer every time.

This all tends to fade once kids come.

Time, energy, and testosterone DROP. 📉

Your training becomes non-existent or if it is, it’s never consistent or you have no idea what to do because you can no longer train like the animal you were like 10 years ago.

This problem happens to many, and did with Lance. 🙎‍♂️

All he wanted was to get himself back into a position of health for his family.

He wanted to play with his kids and show them he could keep up and also LEAD.

He wanted his confidence to skyrocket so he could take his shirt off and feel proud of the work he put in.

He also wanted to workout in a way that didn’t take time from him family or work, so they could still be at the top of his life.

A study from Annals of Internal medicine took a group of 41 women and didn’t account for predisposed caloric conditions because you never know if someone has been a chronic dieter.

This is general can make weight loss harder.

But they fed these women in two ways:

Group one: only a 8-10 hour window

Group two: all 16 hours they are awake

Calories equated for their needs in both sides and they found after 3 months the fasting group averaged 5lbs while the fed group did 5.75lbs.
