What is DCS or DCI (decompression sicknes or illness )?
Today our instructor Jason was able to visit the new Hyperbaric Chamber Facility in Sudbury.
Although the new faculty is not yet set up for DCS emergencies (outside normal operating hours) it is important as diver
to recognize signs and symptoms of DCS emergency
We hope we never have to use a hyperbaric chamber with our divers, yet we see the great benefit that these chambers can be used for outside a diving emergency. From Carbon Monoxide poisoning to other cases of
Wound care, and assisting other medical issues, the range of care provided by these hyperbaric chambers are quite immense!
If you are a diver and suspect a DCS problem please let our instructors know, contact DAN (Divers Alert Network) and ensure the diver is put on supplemental oxygen until they can be assessed by a physician. If chamber is recommended you will most likely be asked about the divers dives for the day, depths and previous dives.
For more info refer to your training, make sure to follow proper procedures for involuntary decompression issues. Keep I mind the following :
Signs and Symptoms

Unusual fatigue
Skin itch
Pain in joints or arm, leg or torso muscles
Dizziness or vertigo
Ringing in the ears
Numbness, tingling and/or paralysis
Shortness of breath
A blotchy rash
Muscle weakness or paralysis
Difficulty urinating
Confusion, personality changes or bizarre behavior
Amnesia
Tremors
Staggering
Coughing up bloody, frothy sputum
Unconsciousness or collapse
