Name: SOLANA
Origin: Spanish
Meaning: Sunshine; Eastern Wind
Time to celebrate another July birthday baller! Solana is one of our 2025 pitchers and she hails from Belton, MO.
I don’t want to sound repetitive but this one’s another quiet one. A silent assassin. She lets her actions speak for her. As soon as she steps into that chalk-lined circle, she dials in on her target with her crosshairs and it’s business from there. But let’s not forget that she has a cheerful side to her as well especially with a name like Solana. . . as her name means sunshine.
Let’s celebrate Solana as she turns 16 by getting to know her a bit more.
1) When did you start playing softball?

"WE never lose, WE either win or WE learn."
Our next June Birthday Baller has a great work ethic. She understands the sacrifices it takes to play at the higher level. It helps that she has an awesome and knowledgeable support group in her family.
She has been clutch hitting from the left side putting balls in play when needed. I’m quite fond of these lefties. We have our own holiday, August 13th is International Lefthanders Day. Another fun fact is that 10% of the world’s population is left-handed.
Enough of me writing about the awesomeness of lefties and let’s wish Reagan Lundy a happy birthday!!!!

“Speak softly and carry a big stick.” Teddy Roosevelt was talking about something else but it applies to our second birthday baller, Addison Williams.

Oklahoma City. . . here we come!!!
Please welcome some new additions to the squad! A healthy dose of talent that brings much needed depth for the upcoming season!!!
Lefties. We make up about 12% of the world’s population. We also have a special holiday dedicated to left-handed people. August 13 is International Left-Handers Day.
I have a soft spot for lefties since we’re such a rare breed. We’re limited to playing the outfield, pitcher, and first base in baseball/softball. Trust me, I’ve tried in my younger days to showcase my talent as a shortstop and it just doesn’t work out. 😞
We’re celebrating a favorite lefty of mine, good ol’ Scoops!!! She’s turning 16 today!!! Our trusty first baseman holding down the other corner. You’ll see her snagging some hard hit grounders and even picking an errant throw from the third baseman.
She’s a quiet one that Erin. But she’s always ready to put in work and she’s that teammate you want on your side. Scoops is there to pick you up when you’re down and always willing to fight until the last pitch of the last inning.
So let’s celebrate Erin “Scoops” Stewart with her Sweet 16 milestone by getting to know what makes her tick.
1) When did you start playing softball? 6 years old
2) Was there anyone special in your life that helped you become a great player?
My mom and dad
3) What do you like to do when you’re not involved with softball? Other sports or hobbies?
I like to snowboard, travel, spend time with friends and family.
4) Do you have any routines or superstitions before or in a game?
I always put my socks on then my sliding shorts.

My favorite softball memory was going to CA to play softball and going to the beach with the team.
6) What are your dream colleges to play for?
I would play anywhere.
7) What’s your favorite food? Least favorite food?
My favorite food is sushi and my least favorite is spaghetti
What’s your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is being at the beach and a tsunami hits.
9) What has been your favorite family vacation?
Snowboarding in Colorado
10) Who is your favorite athlete?
Too many good ones to choose from.
Here are 3 facts regarding Cinco de Mayo.
1) May 5th celebrates Mexico’s defeat of the 2nd French empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
2) It is NOT a celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day which is actually on September 16th.
3) It is Malia Cabuyaban’s anniversary of her birth.
So let’s raise our margarita glasses and dip our tortillas in your favorite salsa as we celebrate Mexico defeating the invading French army AND Malia’s 16th birthday!!!!
This birthday write up is quite personal to me since it’s my daughter and I’ll have to occasionally wipe the tears off my phone as I try to put down some words that best describes her.
We all know that Malia is a fierce competitor as she dabbles in multiple sports like her older brother. I try to instill a “warrior mindset” with all of my kids and one can only hope that it sticks.
It’s really not a secret recipe. Just work harder than the next person, put in extra work when you don’t feel like doing it, and have the mentality that you are better than your opponent no matter the size, stature, record, or experience.
As Malia has matured into this beautiful, smart, and hardworking woman, she definitely displays that “warrior mindset”. It shows when she’s on the diamond, it shows when she’s on the hardwood, and it shows when she’s on the runway with a javelin in her hand.
Over the years, she’s learned how to be a good teammate and that you don’t have to be the best player on the team to lead. You just have to know how to motivate and love to inspire. It wasn’t an easy learning experience by no means but she needed to hit a few potholes on the road to get to where she’s at right now.
So let’s all wish her a happy 16th birthday as she flaunts her newly received driver’s license! Watch your six when walking the dog on the sidewalk and prepare to replace your mailboxes because here she comes!
1) When did you start playing softball?
When I was 6
2) Was there anyone special in your life that helped you become a great player?
My dad and brother have shown me what it’s like to be a competitor, always pushing me to be my best.
3) What do you like to do when you’re not involved with softball? Other sports or hobbies?
Hanging out with friends or talking to family no matter how far away they are.
4) Do you have any routines or superstitions before or in a game?
When I’m pitching and my team goes out to take the field, I have to first grab the ball with my glove and then set my mask down right next to the mound, or else I believe I will pitch bad that inning.
5) What is your favorite softball memory?
My favorite softball memory has been any travel tournament. Knowing my sport is taking me places some people will never see, reminds me how much of a privilege it is.
6) What are your dream colleges to play for?
Duke and Illinois are my favorite right now. Being able to play D1 at the college level is a dream of mine no matter what school it’s at.

I hate to be late when it comes to posting news and stuff but we have a few prayer requests for a couple of our girls and there aren’t deadlines for prayers to God.
First, we’d like to send our condolences to Kathy Genson, Erin Stewart and their family as they mourn the loss of Grandma Lois. We all know how she was an important part of their lives and we offer our prayers for comfort and grace to the entire family.
Secondly, more prayer requests for a speedy recovery for Jaleigh White. She had to undergo a procedure that has thrown a small curveball (pun intended) in her road to recovery with her knee. We send positive encouragement and prayers for healing. You’ve got this!
Happy birthday to our very own Cam Kersten as we celebrate her Sweet Sixteenth! There is nothing sweet about her defensive game play though. She is a beast on the diamond as she has been known to roam around the infield from time to time. It was evident this weekend when she played the middle and corner infield spots. Swallowing up hard hit ground balls like candy.
She holds all the traits that an infielder must have to be successful. Quickness, field awareness, great body control, and most importantly superior hand-eye coordination. You also have to be mentally tough with razor sharp focus to be ready for that rocket line drive coming right at you. Be a ninja.
Cam has this uncanny ability to flip that switch from being a sweetheart in the dugout with that charming smile to a devil in the dirt with a glove at the ready. As soon as she crosses that threshold towards the playing field, that smile disappears and it's nothing but business.
Her glove isn't the only attribute of her game as she carries that same tenacity when she's at the plate. So far in 15 games she's had 3-1B, 3-2B, and a pair of dingers. Let's just say she loves to compete. She's a true gamer.
Let's take a closer look at what makes Cam tick as we celebrate our May 1st Birthday Baller!!!
1)WHEN DID YOU START PLAYING SOFTBALL?
When I was 5 years old.
2) WAS THERE ANYONE SPECIAL IN YOUR LIFE THAT HELPED YOU BECOME A GREAT PLAYER?

I like to go swimming or fishing.
4) DO YOU HAVE ANY ROUTINES OR SUPERSTITIONS BEFORE OR IN A GAME?
You cannot step on the chalk or it's bad luck.
5) WHAT IS YOU FAVORITE SOFTBALL MEMORY?
My favorite softball memory was when we went white water rafting in CO.
6) WHAT ARE YOUR DREAM COLLEGES TO PLAY FOR?
Mizzou
7) WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? LEAST FAVORITE?
My favorite food is chicken strips and my least favorite food is sushi.
8) WHAT'S YOUR BIGGEST FEAR?
Snakes and spiders.
9) WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE FAMILY VACATION?
The trip to Cali for a softball tournament was definitely my favorite vacation.
10) WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ATHLETE?
My favorite athlete is Jocelyn Alo.
We would like to celebrate another birthday baller. One of our catchers, Alannah Hodges, was born 16 years ago and was destined to be special. I say that because it takes an exceptional person to don all of that gear in the heat of the summer and be a backstop for some of the rockets that are hurled by our pitching staff.
One half of the battery in tandem with the pitcher. She is involved in every play. She has the best view of the field. She is almost like a magician at times as you are responsible for not only ensuring that a strike is called a strike but also giving the illusion that a pitch off the plate is also a strike.
There is so much more to it than just catching the ball. The catcher is a conductor at an orchestra and your fellow teammates are your instruments. Directing infielders, keeping one eye on a baserunner, calling defensive plays, and just plain ol' reminding everyone what the count is. Alot of pressure if you ask me.
Strong, both physically and mentally. High game IQ. The ability to calm down a pitcher when needed while being able to light a fire and hype up your team. One more thing . . . you will never see her react in a negative way even when she's not having a good day on the field which all college coaches look for. These are traits that are critical to a catcher's success and Alannah has all of them. So let's get to know her a bit and wish her a happy 16th birthday!!!
1) When did you start playing softball?
5 years old. She was the only girl to play on a baseball team because she moved and had missed softball signups.
2) Was there anyone special in your life that helped you become a great player?

Gearing up for a 4 hour workout at Mizzou!
This is a must read for all 2025s. Recruiting blueprint already laid out by an athlete that has already gone through the process.
Legacy & Legends Softball on Twitter “🚨👀Players & Parents: IMHO, This is a must-read article that can help players & parents who are striving towards getting recruited. Outstanding information from an elite player who just went through the process. https://t.co/ft52SGzcno”
What a great college exposure camp! Thanks to all of the coaches that attended! We had Mizzou, KU, SIU, Wichita State, Mississippi State, Omaha, Northwestern, Tulsa, Eastern Illinois, MO Western, and Nebraska. I apologize if I missed anyone!
One of the great things about camps like this is the low number of campers which means more exposure. Typically, you’ll have a harder time getting noticed or even to receive some quality instruction. The stations weren’t rushed to get everyone through and most times a coach would pause and give out instruction.
So do your due diligence and research camps that may be on your radar. Try and stay away from the “cattle call” types of camps. Usually these are a money grab and they try to cycle people through without any instruction or evaluation. Your best bet is to attend camps on campus at your target schools. Even then you still need to find out how many prospects will be attending or have attended in the past or which coaches will be present
Market yourself. The saying “They’ll find you if you’re good.” is misleading and only partially true. That statement applies to the top 3-5%. Some publications have either featured some of these players or have been on some form of player ranking (I’m not even gonna get into that subject) In this day and age, we have social media. Take control and promote yourself. Twitter is such a powerful tool especially in recruiting. Don’t believe me? Go check out how many coaches have Twitter accounts vs. Facebook or even Instagram. So much traffic goes on via Twitter between college coaches, recruiting platforms, exposure camps, and athletes.
Gone are the days of having to send a VHS highlight tape to coaches in hopes that it doesn’t end up in a pile of others.
Take your TikTok video recording skills and apply them to making highlight videos. Remember, short video clips showcasing each element of your game i.e. defensive skills, some pitching, catching/blocking, throwdowns to 2B and some batting clips. Mix them up with some live game and some skills videos as well.
If you haven’t already done so, let’s all wish Coach Ed Woelbel a Happy Anniversary of his birth. Cheers!
